Notes for Carrie Mae Goodman
Carrie Mae Goodman Wood

Carrie Mae Goodman Wood, 94, passed away on November 6, 2016 at the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House.

She was born on January 12, 1922 in Richfield. Carrie was the daughter of the late Leland Quincy Goodman and Nora Miller Goodman.

She was a graduate of Richfield High School and Catawba College with a degree in Home Economics. On June 12, 1942 she married Mack Herbert Wood in Baltimore and they enjoyed 68 years together living in Salisbury. She enjoyed camping and traveling with many friends along life’s journey. Her home was the gathering place for family celebrations with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Carrie enjoyed volunteering at the voter precincts and Red Cross blood drives. She supported Mack as owner of Wood’s Auto in Spencer which he started in 1947 and closed in 1986. She crocheted hats for newborns and afghans for family members as a hobby.

Carrie was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where she was a Cub Scout Den Mother, a member of the Golden Opportunity Club, Women of the ELCA, and the Eva Peeler Sunday School Class.

She is survived by two sons; Tommie Wood (Sue), Gary Wood (Cathy); one daughter, Yonnie Holland (David); her four grandchildren T.J. Wood (Carrie), Todd Wood (Angel), Jesse Holland (Christine) and Carrie Sipe (Jason). Carrie was the great-grandmother of Caleb Sipe, Taylor Sipe, and Mack Howell Wood. She is also survived by her sister, Alva Sells and brother, Clyde “Bud” Goodman and sister-in-law Thelma Boulus.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Spencer Goodman, and two sisters, Ann “Sis” Robinson and Melvine “Vinnie” Koontz.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Joe Lyerly, a family friend who helped Carrie enjoy life at Oak Park Retirement Center of Salisbury. The family also thanks Kiser Hospice House for the care and support that was given to Carrie and her family.

Service: A Memorial Service will be held on November 10, 2016 at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Lutheran Church. The family will receive friends in the Chapel nave from 10:15 AM to 10:50 AM prior to the Memorial Service.
