Zora Almond
Zora Belle Lambert Almond, 81, of 20470 Old Concord Road, Albemarle, went home to be with the Lord at 5 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008, in Britthaven of Piedmont. Her funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday with a 30-minute state in Plyler Baptist Church, where she was a member. The Rev. Shannon Powell officiated and burial was in the church cemetery. Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle.
Born May 4, 1927, in Stanly County, she was a daughter of the late Eli Marion and Emma Honeycutt Eury Lambert and was a homemaker. She also worked at Wiscassett Mills for 25 years and in home child care for 30 years. She was a member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary, the Millingport Fireman’s Auxiliary, the WMU of Plyler Baptist Church, the DAV Women’s Auxiliary and the VFW Women’s Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by eight brothers, Robert Lambert, Burley Lambert, Will, Matthew, Claude, Fred and Chell Lambert and Vitis Eury; and four sisters, Lillie Burleson, Lucille Sides, Rosetta Eury Gilmore and Beulah Brown.
She is survived by her husband, William Robert Almond Sr. of Albemarle; a son, William “Bill” R. Almond Jr. and wife, Anita, of Albemarle; two daughters, Pattie Huneycutt and husband, Michael, and Doris Shaver and husband, Ricky, all of Albemarle; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans of Stanly County #12, Box 112, Albemarle, NC.
