Thelma 'Leona' Morgan

SALISBURY - Thelma "Leona" Morgan, 95, of Salisbury, passed away Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013, at Genesis Health Care of Salisbury.

Born July 29, 1918, to the late Catherine and Challie Morgan, she was educated in Rowan County schools and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia Bible College. She received her Master of Arts from Appalachian State University.

Miss Morgan taught in the Rowan-Salisbury and Davie County schools. She also taught for two years in Japan and one year in Germany with the Army's Dependents schools.

She was a member of Maranatha Bible Church, where she served in many capacities. She was on the Missions Committee, Program Chairman for Seniors Group, a Sunday School teacher, Search Committee member, office volunteer and was active with various women's activities.

Miss Morgan was formerly a charter member of the Alpha Delta Kappa, an honorary teachers sorority, where she served as president and in several other offices.

Surviving are her niece, Catherine Wolfingbarger and husband Larry; three nephews, James W. Albright and wife Ruth, Frank Albright, and Sidney Albright and wife Linda; and special friend, Sara McNeill Johnson Johnson. Several great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.

Preceding her in death were her sisters, Ruth Ann Morgan and Kate M. Albright; nephew Norman Albright; and special friend Wade Oldham Johnson.

The family would like to say a special thank you to her caregiver, Kaloni Brincefield, and the nurses at Genesis Healthcare for the loving care given to Miss Morgan.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 12:30-1 p.m. Thursday (Sept. 26) at Maranatha Bible Church.

Service: A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. at Maranatha Bible Church, conducted by Rev. Bob Vetters and Mr. Peter Newell. Burial will follow at Luther's Lutheran Church in Richfield.

Memorials: May be made to Maranatha Bible Church, 2320 Statesville Blvd., Salisbury, NC 28147.
