ALBEMARLE - Loys Preston Bowers, 83, of 24327 N.C. 24/27, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, at Forrest Oakes Healthcare Center. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Hartsell Funeral Homes Lefler Memorial Chapel, Albemarle. The Rev. James Potts will officiate. Burial will be in Stanly Gardens of Memory.
He was born in Stanly County on Aug. 12, 1920, to the late Gertie Lowder Bowers and William Preston Bower. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lillie Mae Eudy Bowers, and brothers, Vernon Bowers and Leon Bowers.
Survivors are wife Mary Elizabeth Bowers of the home; sons, John Monroe Bowers of Oakboro, Lee Preston Bowers and wife Nancy of Richfield; sister Vera B. Huneycutt of Albemarle; grandsons, David Bowers and wife Nadine of Richfield, Douglas Bowers of Norwood; granddaughters, Patricia Callicutt and husband Mike of Oakboro, Tracy Efird and husband Jeff of Locust; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be prior to the service from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle. The family will meet at the home, 24327 Highway 24/27, Albemarle.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Stanly County.
