Ewell Ray Almond, 72, of New London passed away on Thursday, September 1st, 2022 in Atrium Health Stanly. His funeral service will be 10 AM on Wednesday, September 7th, 2022 in the Stanly Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Keith Walters officiating. Burial will follow in Stanly Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from on Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 PM.
Born March 26, 1950 in Stanly County, NC, he was the son of the late Charlie W. Almond and Irene Ribelin Almond. He was the shop foreman of Quality Equipment, the former Bowers Implement, and was employed there for 49 years. He was a veteran of the US Army and served from 1970 - 1972. He enjoyed fishing and gardening and looked forward every year to his trips to the mountains to get peaches and apples.
Mr. Almond was preceded in death by his wife Judy Mauldin Almond in 2019 and grandson, Jeffrey Steven Hooks Jr. Survivors include son Matthew Almond of Albemarle, daughters Julie Almond Bowers of Charlotte and Stephanie Almond Hokls of Brattleboro, VT, three siblings Mary Kathryn Keener of New London, Charlie Almond of Oxford, NC and his twin sister Jewel Faggart of New London, as well as 7 grandchildren.
