Notes for Sidney Allen “Sid” Almond
Sidney Allen “Sid” Almond

Sidney Allen “Sid” Almond of Albemarle, aged 83, passed away October 22, 2019 at CMC Northeast in Concord, North Carolina. A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, October 25, 2019 at 10 AM in the Stanly Funeral Home Chapel Albemarle. The service will be officiated by Rev. Jim Pyatt with interment following the service at Stanly Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 5 Pm until 7 Pm on Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Born December 8, 1935 in Union County, NC, to the late Adam Pearson Almond and Carrie Barbee Almond, Sid was one of 14 children in his large Depression-Era family. In addition to his parents, Sid was preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters.

Sid was a well-known retired local businessman, having spent any years in auto-related businesses, including a car wash, a tire and muffler store, and a used car sales establishment. He was also a veteran of the armed services, having served his country in the US Army in the mid-1950s. Sid loved watching Tar heel basketball for more than 60 years, and also enjoyed watching the Carolina Panthers (most of the time!) and NASCAR racing.

Anyone who had the opportunity to have a conversation with Sid knows that his real hobby was politics, and he kept with it the very end. But his true love was his family, both immediate and extended, and Sid took great pride in getting the whole family together every Christmas!

Sid is survived by his wife of many years, Ann Holly Almond of the home; his daughter Rhonda Almond Hughes; three sons, Rod Almond and wife Kelly, Rick D. Almond; and David S. Almond and wife, Joy; by four grandchildren; Hunter Hughes, Adam Almond, Daniel Almond, and Sydney Almond; by brothers Jimmy Almond and Wayne Almond; sister Brenda Almond Carpenter; and dozens and dozens of nieces, nephews and other extended family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Roy Hinson/Levine Cancer Center.

Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care of Albemarle is serving the family of Sidney Allen “Sid” Almond.
