Alma Kirk Neugent
KERNERSVILLE - Mrs. Alma Kirk “Pete” Neugent, age 85, passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at Trinity Glen in Winston-Salem, after a period of declining health. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Main Street United Methodist Church in Kernersville. There will be a private family burial in the church cemetery prior to the service. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall of Main Street United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Neugent was born July 25, 1929, a daughter of Horace Watson and Sallie Lilly Kirk, both deceased. A native of her beloved Stanley County, N.C., she moved as a small child with her family to Kernersville. She was educated in the Forsyth County Schools. In 1947, she married David Lee Neugent, Sr. After a brief career with Jefferson Standard Insurance Co., she became a homemaker and mother staying home with her two sons. For over 80 years, she was a faithful member of Main Street United Methodist Church where she served as Financial Secretary for 32 Years. After her husband's death, she worked as a receptionist for Triangle Machine and Electronics for 35 years until her retirement.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Neugent was preceded in death by her husband; David Lee Neugent, Sr., her sisters; Jean K. Ballard, Ruth K. Whicker and Nancy K. Simpson, and her brother; Hal W. Kirk.
Mrs. Neugent is survived by her sons; David L. Neugent, Jr. and wife, Sandra of Kernersville and Gary Neugent and wife, Cindy of Winston Salem; her grandchildren, David Lee Neugent III of Kernersville, Kathryn N. Willert and husband, Todd of Kernersville, Charles K. Neugent and wife, Stacia of Harrisburg, Cassie L. Neugent of Raleigh, Anna M. Neugent of Raleigh and Alec Neugent of Winston-Salem; great grandchildren, Harper Kathryn Willert and Brantley Charles Neugent.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be directed to Main Street United Methodist Church Building Fund, Kernersville, NC; or to the Stony Hill United Methodist Church, Albemarle, NC.
