John “Jake” William Glover

John “Jake” William Glover, 83, of 122 Lee St., Richfield, died at 4:13 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25, 2008, at Stanly Regional Medical Center. His funeral will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, with a 30-minute state at New Bethel Lutheran Church, Richfield, where he was a member. Military Honors will be conducted by Chapter 12 Stanly County DAV. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle.

Born Oct. 19, 1924, in Richfield, he was the son of the late Thomas Glover and Myrtle Elizabeth (Bolton) Glover. During WWII, he served with the US Army in the European Theater. He received a number of awards including the Purple Heart. He was a retired brick mason and had been employed by Atom Construction.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva (Ridenhour) Glover; three sisters, Thelma Trexler, Lillie Mae Allred and Inez Hedrick; and a brother, Granville “Buck” Glover.

He is survived by two daughters, Catherine Early and husband, Terry, of Albemarle and Shirley Smith and husband, LC, of Norwood; special sister-in-law, Dianne Winfree and husband, Gerald, of Richfield; four grandchildren, Sherri Cranford, Jennifer Rhodes, Hayley Franklin and Emily Stallings; seven great-grandchildren, Kasey, Jacob, Travis, Caleb, Tayler, Tyler and Samuel; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Stanly County, or New Bethel Lutheran Church, Richfield.
