Craig Jackson Barbee

Craig Jackson Barbee, 89 years of age, of Midland, passed away Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Clear Creek Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Mint Hill.

Craig was born October 14, 1928 in Cabarrus County to the late Charlie Columbus Barbee and the late Essie Mae Hinson Barbee. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Helen Bernice Barbee; great granddaughter, Maeghan Edwards; his brothers, Ward, Harold, Jack and J Doice Barbee; and sister, Grovine Huneycutt.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Sunday, November 26, 2017 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland. The funeral service officiated by Rev. Jonathan Barbee will be at 3:00 PM, Monday, November 27, 2017 at Pine Bluff United Methodist Church, 11000 Reed Mine Road, Midland. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Those left to cherish his memory are his three children, Michael (Becky) Barbee of Midland, Jeff (Annette) Barbee of Indian Trail, and Sheila (Randy) Carriker of Midland. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Mike (Dion) Edwards of Marshville, Gina (Nathan) Powers of Hickory, Judith (Scott) Downs of Angier, NC, Jonathan (Brandi) Barbee of Durham, Emily (Wes) Jessup of Harrisburg, Lauren (Clint) Drye of Midland, and Jordan, Joel, and Jason Barbee of Indian Trail; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley Causby of Belmont; and brother, Jim (Sue) Barbee of Midland; and many nieces and nephews.

He attended Bethel School and was a lifelong member of Pine Bluff United Methodist Church, Midland. He retired from Union Carbide Corp., and later from Southeastern Metal in Charlotte. After retirement he enjoyed working in his garden, and selling produce and strawberries.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Clear Creek Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
