Notes for Faye Blanche Lambert
Faye Lambert Baker

CONCORD - Faye Lambert Baker, 77, of Concord, died June 14, 2009, at Transitional Health Services of Kannapolis following a long battle with heart, lung, and kidney disease.

Faye Baker was born on January 29, 1932, in Concord, to the late William R. Lambert and the late Nellie M. Lambert as the fourth oldest of nine children. In her youth, she enjoyed taking care of her siblings, working on the family farm, and helping her parents. Later, Mrs. Baker worked at McLellan's in downtown Concord. It was there that she met her husband of over 58 years, Patrick E. Baker. During their marriage, they moved around the country, but Mrs. Baker always felt at home in Concord, and eventually came back with her husband to retire.

Faye was especially proud of earning her high school diploma by attending night school while residing in Torrance, California, in 1968.

Mrs. Baker took great joy in working in the garden growing vegetables and maintaining potted flowers on the porch. She was a great cook and always provided her family with delicious home-cooked meals, cakes, and pies. Faye also was quite gifted at crafts, and enjoyed making baby dolls and quilting. Though she loved to play golf and watch motorsports with her family, her most memorable recreational activity was the countless hours of surf fishing at Long Beach, NC, with her father.

Mrs. Baker loved traveling to visit her children. She really enjoyed "riding the rails" to visit her son when he lived in Louisiana and her daughter when she lived just outside Washington, D.C., in Maryland.

The past several years were difficult health-wise for Faye, but she nevertheless persevered. Even at her sickest, she was gracious and took whatever life brought her in stride. She was always friendly and kind to everyone she met. Once a stranger met her, they quickly became a friend. Friends and family were extremely important to Faye and she cultivated those relationships as well as she cultivated her gardens. She brought joy to all who knew her and will be dearly missed.

Faye Baker is survived by her husband, Patrick E. Baker, of Concord; son and daughter-in-law, Gregory R. Baker and Karen R. Baker, of Tampa, Fla.; daughter, Karen I. Baker, of Knoxville, Tenn.; granddaughters, Jennifer R. Baker and Amanda R. Baker, of Tampa, Fla.; brother, Harvey A. Lambert, of Concord; sister, Nancy L. Cooper, of Concord; brother, R. Dean Lambert, of Salisbury.

In addition to her parents, Faye is preceded in death by her brothers, William A. Lambert, Cramer C. Lambert, and David L. Lambert; and sisters, Betty R. Long and Shirley R. Cagle.

Visitation will be Tuesday, June 16, 2009, from 6 to 8p.m. at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord. The funeral service will be at 11a.m. on Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at Hartsell Funeral Home followed by interment at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis, NC.

Memorials may be made to American Heart Association or to National Kidney Foundation.

The family is being served by Hartsell Funeral Home, Concord.
