George “G.C.” Honeycutt

ROCKWELL - George "G.C." Honeycutt, 84, of Rockwell, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2008, at his residence.

Mr. Honeycutt was born Nov. 26, 1923, in Rowan County, a son of the late Curtis "CC" and Callie Holshouser Huneycutt. He attended Rowan County schools, retired from Cannon Mills, was a member of Faith Baptist Church, a former Sunday School teacher and former church treasurer.

Mr. Honeycutt was a former member of Faith American Legion Post 327 and a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army as a member of Patton's 3rd Army Spearhead 737th Tank Battalion. He was the first wounded soldier returned to Rowan County.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife Hazel Kepley Honeycutt on July 5, 1998, and brother Douglas Honeycutt.

Survivors include son Don Honeycutt and wife Patty of Salisbury; granddaughters Stacey Patricia White and husband Ron of Wake Forest and Donna Christine Honeycutt of Salisbury; and great-grandchildren Jacob Christian and Lauren Delaney.

Visitation: 12:30-2 p.m. Monday, May 26 at Faith Baptist Church.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday, May 26 at Faith Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Joe Smith, pastor, and Rev. Charles R. Brawley, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Bessemer City. Burial to follow in church cemetery with Military Graveside Honors by N.C. Army National Guard and Rowan County Military Honor Guard.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be to Faith Baptist Church, Faith, NC; or Stallings Memorial Baptist Church, Salisbury, NC.

Powles Funeral Home of Rockwell is in charge of arrangements.
