Mary Kathleen Shive Fesperman

Mary Kathleen Shive Fesperman, age 96, of Thomasville, North Carolina, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, December 19, 2016, surrounded by her family. Kathleen was born in Rowan County to Roxie Trexler and Henry Boyden Shive on December 24, 1919. She attended Granite Quarry High School and graduated from China Grove High School in 1937. 

Kathleen had four brothers and one sister who predeceased her: Ethan Shive, Hal Shive, Kyle Shive, Kenneth Shive, and Lena (Mrs. Howard) Fincher.

In 1938 Kathleen married Harry Beaver Fesperman of Salisbury, NC. They were married for fifty-three years and had four daughters, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. In 1965 Kathleen moved with her family from Kannapolis, NC, to Thomasville.

Throughout her lifetime, Kathleen was known for her artistic abilities, which included sewing, hat design, cooking, and flower arranging. She enjoyed working for over twenty years as a beauty consultant for Merle Norman Cosmetics at the former House of Beauty in Thomasville.

Kathleen was an active and lifelong member of the Lutheran Church. She grew up in Organ Lutheran Church in Salisbury, NC, where she was a member of the Luther League, the Women’s Church Circle, and played piano and organ as a young adult for church services. After moving to Thomasville, Kathleen became active in women’s church circles at Grace Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the Thomasville Woman’s Club for many years.

Kathleen was predeceased by her husband in 1992. 

She is survived by her daughters and son-in-laws, Kay (Mrs. Ronald) Sides of Charlotte, NC, Jeanne (Mrs. Mercer) Morrisette of Murrells Inlet, SC, Harriet (Mrs. Clifton) Black of Princeton, NJ, Beth (Mrs. Dean) Saintsing of High Point, NC and grandchildren, Leslie (Sides) Rink, Jennifer (Morrisette) Cowden, Kimberly (Morrisette) Conder, Caroline Black, Jared Saintsing, Jordan Saintsing, and great-grandsons, Alex and Ben Cowden as well as many nieces and nephews. 

The funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at 12:00 noon in Grace Lutheran Church, Thomasville, NC, immediately followed by a graveside service at Organ Lutheran Church, Salisbury, NC. Visitation will be held for the hour prior to the service, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 at Grace Lutheran Church.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Hospice of the Piedmont, Hospice and Palliative Care of Lake Norman, and Tidelands Hospice for their wonderful support and care over the past year.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Grace Lutheran Church, 115 Unity Street Thomasville, NC.
