Fannie Poplin Burleson

Fannie Poplin Burleson, 97, died Friday, June 19, 2009 at Southeastern Hospice House in Lumberton. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 21, at Wesley Pines Chapel with The Rev. Steve Little officiating. Entombment will follow at Pine Grove Methodist Church Cemetery in Albemarle.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the service in the Wesley Pines Chapel.

Born May 15, 1912, in Stanly County, she was a Cum Laude graduate of Appalachian State University and was a teacher for 40 years. She taught at Endy School in Albemarle and taught in the Tabor City schools. She was a principal for five years in the Boys and Girls Home in Lake Waccamaw.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Mattie Poplin; her husband, Randall Burleson; and three sisters, Mary Pickler, Pauline McDaniel and Naomi Harwood.

She is survived by her son, Dr. William R. Burleson and wife, Norma, of Lumberton; a daughter, Toby Ann Burleson of Lumberton; a sister, Geneva Smith of Charlotte; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Boys and Girls Home of Lake Waccamaw, P.O. Box 127, Lake Waccamaw, NC; or to Wesley Pines Retirement Center, 1000 Wesley Pines Road, Lumberton, NC.

Floyd Mortuary and Crematory, Inc. in Lumberton is serving the Burleson family.
