Joyce Petrea Travis Pennington
Joyce Petrea Travis Pennington, 69, of Plateau Rd., Newton, passed away Thursday October 21, 2010 at Palliative Care Center Hospice of Catawba Valley following a brief illness.
Ms. Pennington was born on March 3, 1941 in Caldwell County to the late Riley Petrea and Alda Auton Petrea. She was retired from Joan Fabrics, and was a member of Enon Baptist Church.
Survivors include her first husband, Tony Eugene Travis; two daughters, Darkes Gay Grindstaff and husband Tracy, and Dawn Lee Bolen and husband Bruce; one son, Evan Eugene Travis and Kelly Bolden; grandchildren, Jennifer Renee Ikard, Jessica Ray Chapman, Tamara Lynn Blevins, Ashley Nicole Bradshaw, Jonathan Dewayne Akers, Larry Nelson Akers, Kaylee Ann Travis, Evan Eugene Travis, Jr., Baley Michael Travis, Kelsey Lynn Dixon; great-grandchildren, Brendon Ikard, Monica Bolen, Andrew Ikard, Leela Akers, Lilly Akers, Earl, Joyce and Chyenne Akers, and Silas Blevins and Riley Campbell; brothers and sisters, Frank Petrea and wife Shirley, Jerry Petrea and wife Mable, Sybil Harris and husband Jack, Sandra Smith and husband Lynn, Barbara Pennell; and two sister-in-laws, Peggy Petrea and Frances Petrea.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by one son, James Ray Travis; and two brothers, Harry Petrea and Riley Petrea.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday October 23, 2010 at Enon Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Gary Garner. Interment will follow at Enon Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese, where the body will remain until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the funeral hour.
Memorial contributions may be made to Enon Baptist Church Bus Fund, 2059 Enon Rd. Morganton, NC.
