John Junior Russell

Mr. John Junior Russell, 90, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2018. 1 Corinthians 15:57: “Thanks be to God which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Mr. Russell was born Oct. 13, 1928 in Stanly County. He was a son of the late Delma John Russell and Vera Helen Miller Russell.

Mr. Russell was a graduate of Richfield High School and Pfeiffer College. He retired from Fieldcrest Cannon and a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was a member of First Baptist Church in China Grove, where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Director and Trustee.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Floyd Russell; and step-mother, Lillian Burris Russell.

Mr. Russell is survived by his wife of 54 years, Willa Whitt Russell; daughters, Pam Harrison and husband Ben Jr. of Salisbury and Debbie Rodgers and husband Andy of Kannapolis; four granddaughters, McKamie Harrison of China Grove, Caitlin Harrison of Salisbury, Bailey Rodgers and Abby Rodgers, both of Kanapolis; a number of nieces and nephews; and special friends, Carolyn and Gene O'Kelley and Shirley and Melvin McGee.

Service: A funeral service is scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, 2018 at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Entombment with military honors will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 1-2:45 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials: Memorials may be sent to First Baptist Church, China Grove, NC; or Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Alicia Zavala, his caregiver of two years, Hospice of Cabarrus County and the VA homebound program.

Lady's Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family of Mr. Russell.
