Mack Sapp, Sr.

Mr. Mack Leonard Sapp Sr., 92, passed away on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at his residence.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at Gordon Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant. The funeral service will be 2:00pm, Wednesday, October 17 at Boger Reformed Church officiated by Reverend Chad Kyler and Dr. Donald McManus. Burial will follow the service at Boger Reformed Church with military graveside rites provided by the Cabarrus County Veterans Honor Guard.

Mack was born on January 31st 1926 in Concord NC to the late Emmett C. Sapp Sr. and Ada Allman Sapp. He is one of ten children and is preceded in death by his brothers Frank Sapp, Emmett Sapp Jr., John Sapp, Homer Sapp, Hoover Sapp and his sisters Stella Goodman, Gurthie Sapp, Pearl Sapp and Mary Lois Petrea.

Mack was a lifelong member of Boger Reformed Church of Concord where he also served as Deacon and Elder. He worked at Kerr Bleachery and Cannon Mills as a carpenter and later went on to work at Stonewall Jackson Training School in Concord where he retired in 1989. He was a Private First Class in the US Army during WWII. Serving in Europe under General George Patton, he participated in the campaigns in Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the Marksman Medal, the Expert Infantry Medal and WWII Victory Medal. He served active duty from 1944-1946 and received an honorable discharge after the war ended.

He is survived by his wife Ruth Barbee Sapp, son Mack Leonard Sapp Jr. (April), other survivors are James Frazier Jr. (MaryAnn), Vicky Gray (Garry) and Donna Moser along with his grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Boger Reformed Church at 7313 Gold Hill Road, or Hospice Palliative Care of Cabarrus County.
