Nancy Pauline "Polly" Furr
Nancy Pauline “Polly” Furr, 78, of Albemarle, NC, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2022, after a brief battle with cancer.
Polly was born on February 25, 1944 in Stanly County, NC to the late Reather Cornelius Furr, Sr. and the late Gladys Taylor Furr. She was a classically trained fine artist, brilliant illustrator, and independent thinker. After graduating Albemarle High School, she was awarded a scholarship to the prestigious Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida, earning her BFA in commercial design.
She lived an artist’s life, creating countless logos and ads, while receiving national and industry awards for her work. Polly was beloved by coworkers and clients and will be remembered for her extraordinary artwork, insatiable curiosity, generosity of spirit, sparkling blue eyes, and a smile that lit up a room.
Polly loved birds and nature, classical jazz, continuous learning and traveling. But most of all, she loved her family and they adored her.
She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Reather Cornelius “RC” Furr, Jr. and Roland Anthony Furr, and sister-in-law Phyllis Marbry Furr, nieces, Susan Furr Underwood, Caroline Furr Norton and nephew, A. Wayne Furr.
She is survived by sister-in-law, Frances Ingram Furr, and nieces and nephews Cornetha Furr Holcomb, Arthur L. Furr, Henry C. Furr, Kelvin C. Furr, Audrey Furr Lowder and many great nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to celebrate Polly’s life will be held on Monday, October 24, 2022, at 2:00pm at Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care of Albemarle. The family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Charlotte Optimist Club, 10933 Idlewild Rd., Matthews, NC, or the Stanly Arts Guild, 330-C N. Second St., Albemarle, NC.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Atrium Health - Stanly and Oncology, Trinity Place and Hospice of Stanly & the Uwharrie for their exceptional care.
