SALISBURY - Billy Day Witty, 84, of Salisbury, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013 at Carolina's Medical Center - Northeast, surrounded by his family.
Born Dec. 2, 1928 in Rowan County, he was the son of the late Mittie Amanda Butler and Hugh Rainey Witty.
Billy graduated from Granite Quarry High School in 1950, retired from Southern Bell Telephone Company and was also a veteran of the N.C. National Guard. He retired as a 1st Sergeant after serving 21 1/2 years.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, James Witty.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Betty Rose Thomas, whom he married on Sept. 28, 1952; daughter, Cynthia Anne Thomas (Michael) of Granite Quarry; twin brother Bobbie Ray Witty of Puyallup, Wash.; grandson, William Michael Thomas (Allison) of Princeton; great-grandchildren, Grayson, Coleman and Nicholas.
Visitation and Services: Service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013 at Christiana Lutheran Church with the Rev. Carl Haynes officiating. A visitation will follow the service.
Memorials: Nathan Brown House Inc., P.O. Box 1167, Salisbury, NC 28145; or the Christiana Lutheran Roof Fund.
