Edna Elizabeth “Lib” Stockton

CHARLOTTE - Edna Elizabeth Bankett Stockton, 84, of Charlotte, passed away on Nov. 14, 2011. 

Lib was born in Salisbury on Feb. 9, 1927, to John Carlie Bankett and Grace Mahaley Bankett. She graduated from Boyden High School in Salisbury and Lenoir-Rhyne College. 

She worked for Ramsey Realty and Insurance Co. for five years, after which she began her career with the North Carolina Highway Patrol. Lib worked at the Salisbury Troop Headquarters and then the Troop Office in Monroe, from which she retired after 38 years with the NCHP. After her retirement, she worked part time for 12 years as a cashier at J&K Cafeteria. 

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husbands, Earl Lingle of Salisbury, Bill Riddick of Belvidere and Max Stockton of Charlotte. 

She is survived by her brother, Johnnie R. Bankett and wife Barbara; nephew, J. Christian Bankett and wife Elizabeth of Charlotte; niece Tracy Arne and husband Tom of Winston-Salem; one great-niece; and three great-nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff at White Oak Manor for their wonderful care of Elizabeth as well as a special thank you to her close friend, Aubrey Nolan, for his friendship and devotion these last few years. 

Visitation and Service: The family will receive friends Saturday, Nov. 19 from noon until 1 p.m. followed by a 1 p.m. service at McEwen Pineville Chapel, Charlotte. Interment will immediately follow at Sharon Memorial Park Mausoleum. 

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Elizabeth's honor to Hickory Grove Baptist Church, Charlotte NC.
