George Ray Wagoner

George Ray Wagoner, 84 years of age, of Mount Pleasant, passed away Saturday, September 17, 2016 at home.

George was born May 7, 1932 in Stanly County to the late Dewey Wyte Wagoner and the late Zula Maie Eudy Wagoner.  He was also preceded in death by brother, Lewis Wagoner and sister, Shelby Harwood.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle. The funeral service will be on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at 11:00 am at Salem United Methodist Church in Albemarle officiated by Rev. Steve Combs. Burial will follow at Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Peggy Virginia Wagoner of the home; one son, George Wagoner, Jr. of Mount Pleasant; three daughters, Carol (Edward) Allen of Albemarle, Debara (Bryon) Morgan of Gold Hill, and Terry (Steve) Lukowski of Atlanta; one sister, Linda Kay Stallings of Mount Pleasant; four grandchildren, Joey Beachum, Heather Wagoner, Jody Beachum, Brandon Lukowski; and six great grandchildren.

Employed by the Stanly County School System, George was a vocational education teacher for masonry for 29 years. A veteran of the US Air Force, he was in the Air National Guard until 1966. He founded George's Plant Farm in the early 70's which is still operated by the family.

Memorials may be made to Salem United Methodist Church Building Fund, or to Community Home Care & Hospice.
