Grace K. Kaplafka of Arlington Heights

Visitation for Grace K. Kaplafka will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Monday, April 4, at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road (four blocks south of Palatine Road), Arlington Heights, where prayers will be said at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, April 5, before going to Our Lady of the Wayside Church, 440 S. Mitchell, Arlington Heights, for Mass at 11 a.m. Interment is private.

Born June 25, 1939, in Concord, N.C., to William I. and Grace (nee Cheek) Kirk, she passed away Monday, March 28, 2011, at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. Mrs. Kaplafka was active at Our Lady of the Wayside Parish, the Lions Club Auxiliary, a Girl Scout Leader, and she loved fishing. She held various positions as a lab technician, including supervisor at numerous local hospitals.

She is survived by her children, Virginia (Doug) Butcher of Beckley, W.Va., John A. (Deborah) Kaplafka of Nashua, N.H. and Robert Kaplafka of Arlington Heights; and her grandchildren, Brian, Elliot, Dustin, Jessica and Katherine.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, John J. Kaplafka; her parents; and her brother, William Kirk.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Northwest Suburban United Way, 75 Remittance Drive, Suite 5828, Chicago, IL to benefit PADS and Catholic Charities, or WINGS, P.O. Box 95615, Palatine, IL.

Grace Kirk Kaplafka, Arlington Heights, Ill., passed away March 28 in Illinois.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend graveside services at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Michael Ukrainian Greek Catholic Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights. Monsignor Myron Grabowsky, pastor, will officiate.

Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah, is in charge of arrangements.
