Services for Mr. Harkey will be Saturday, May 7, from the Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle, N.C. Interment will be in Ridgecrest Presbyterian Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Wednesday at Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home.

Mr. Harkey, 76, of Brush Creek and formerly of Locust, N.C., died Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at Alive Hospice in Nashville. Born in Stanly County, N.C., he was the son of the late Daniel and Dora Bell Burris Harkey. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a member of Ridgecrest Presbyterian Church in Locust. After retiring from Enterprise Rendering Co. in Oakboro, N.C., he and his wife moved to Middle Tennessee to be near his only daughter and grandchildren. He worked part-time for Mueller Industries in Carthage. He attended the Lebanon First Presbyterian Church for the past 11 years.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Fred and Theodore Harkey.

Survivors include: wife of 56 years, Aileen Lambert Harkey; daughter, Tammy Harkey Cagle of Antioch; grandchildren, Wesley and Courtney Cagle of Antioch; sisters, Shirley Paige of Locust, Beulah Sides of Albemarle, N.C. and Frances Tucker of Lakeland, Fla.; and brothers, Junior Harkey of Concord, N.C., Grady Harkey of Albemarle and Bill Harkey of Evington, Va.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Alive Hospice or the American Cancer Society.

Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
