SALISBURY - Haywood Basinger, 87, of Salisbury, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008, at his residence.

Born July 2, 1921, in Salisbury, he was the son of the late Charles L. Basinger and Alice Arey Basinger. He was educated in the Salisbury City schools. Employed by Litton Manufacturing Company, he retired in 1983.

Mr. Basinger was an active charter member of Messiah Lutheran Church.

Preceding him in death were his sisters, Onnie B. Honeycutt, Callie B. Gregory, Katherine B. Shutt and Wilma B. Cross; and brothers Carl L. Basinger, Chester L. Basinger and Charles L. Basinger.

Survivors include his wife, Edith Louise Eller, whom he married Nov. 5, 1939; one daughter, Dottie Basinger Eagle (Carl) of Salisbury. Also surviving are grandchildren Linda E. Agner (Rodney), Russ Eagle (Liz) all of Salisbury, Kathy E. Fogleman (Barry) of Liberty; and great-grandchildren Tina Eagle, Sara Agner, Daniel Agner, Jake Fogleman, Emily Fogleman and Carly Fogleman, of whom he was very proud.

Visitation: 2-3 p.m. Saturday at Messiah Lutheran Church; and at other times, the family will be at his daughter's home.

Service: 3 p.m. following the visitation at Messiah Lutheran Church with the Rev. Don Safrit officiating. Burial will follow at Rowan Memorial Park.

Memorials: Messiah Lutheran Church or Rowan Regional Home Health & Hospice.
