J. (James) David Honeycutt

Mr. J. (James) David Honeycutt, 85, of Albemarle, NC but recently residing at Carillon Assisted Living of Salisbury, NC, passed away Tuesday morning, May 15, 2018 at Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem, NC.

Mr. Honeycutt was born on September 28, 1932 in Gold Hill, NC, the youngest son of the late W. Reid and Kathleen Eudy Honeycutt. A graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School and Pfieffer Junior College, he retired from a book-keeping and office manager career that included positions at Stanly Frozen Food Locker, Morris Packing Company, and C.L. Vickers Company in Albemarle as well as Yadkin Brick Yard of New London, NC. He served our country in the US Army and Army Reserves, having reached the rank of Master Sergeant.

David continued to be active in gardening and farming prior to and after retirement, raising Angus Cattle and Hampshire Hogs. He was an active member of First Lutheran Church in Albemarle, serving as the Sunday School Superintendent for over 43 years, as well as serving on Church Council, teaching Sunday School, and participating in numerous other committees. His church previously honored him with the Bain Jones award for member of the year.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 46 years, Annie Lou Kluttz Honeycutt, as well as sisters Edith H. Eagle and Mae H. Block. Survivors include his son, Timothy L. Honeycutt and wife Deana; grandsons Clayton R. Honeycutt and wife Cat, Samuel J. Honeycutt and wife Amy; great grandchild Abigail S. Honeycutt; brother William R. Honeycutt, Jr., all of Mt. Pleasant, NC; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Friday, May 18 from 6:30 until 8:30 at Stanly Funeral & Cremation of Albemarle. Service will be at First Lutheran Church on Saturday, May 19 at 10:30 am with burial following in Stanly Gardens of Memory.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to be made to the Annie K. Honeycutt Nursing Scholarship at First Lutheran Church of Albemarle, or St. Stephens Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund.
