TEGA CAY -- Mr. Leslie Francis "Les" Swanner, 73, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2007, at his home.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, 2007 at Wolfe Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Sam Parker officiating.
Born in Albemarle, N.C., Mr. Swanner was the son of the late Jonah Bascom Swanner and Beulah Mae Eagle Swanner. He was a graduate of Catawba College in Salisbury, N.C., where he was an All-American football player. Mr. Swanner was an avid golfer and won the South Carolina Senior Golf Championship in 1993. He won numerous club championships at area country clubs. He was a former teacher, athletic director and head football coach at Page High School in Greensboro, N.C. He also was a lifeguard and taught swimming. Mr. Swanner retired from Alabama Metals Industries last year after 28 years of employment as a sales representative.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara J. Swanner; his son, L. Douglas Swanner of Monroe Township, N.J.; two daughters, Annie Swanner of Rock Hill and Joy Rogers of Fort Mill; daughter-in-law, Debra Swanner; and seven grandchildren, Derek, Brandon and Taylor Swanner and Sarah, Robert and John Rogers and Grace Griffin.
