Ernest Edwin Hoover

Mr. Ernest Edwin Hoover, 89, a resident of Thomasville, died Thursday, April 25, 2013 in the Hospice Home at High Point. He was born October 16, 1923 in Randolph County, a son of the late Jasper Andrew Hoover and Bertha Eagle Hoover.

Mr. Hoover was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp., having served during World War II and later served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was the owner and operator of Hoover’s Trim & Bike Shop. Mr. Hoover was a charter member of the Thomasville Moose Lodge #1868, where had served as past Governor and was instrumental in the building of the lodge’s pool. He was a member of Calvary United Church of Christ, where he had served as a Deacon, member of the Consistory and building committee.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys Coman.

On January 20, 1952 he was married to Helen Darr, who survives of the home. Also surviving are daughters, Anita H. Connell and husband Randy of Thomasville and Marcia H. Coatta and husband John of Minnetonka, Mn.; a son Ernie Hoover and wife Kim of Thomasville; adopted son, William “Boo” Gaddy of Thomasville; a sister, Pauline Clodfelter and husband James of Asheville, N.C.; and eight grandchildren, Jessica Connell, Sam Coatta, Trevor Connell, Ashley Hoover, Annie Coatta, Emily Hoover, Max Coatta and Brittany Hoover.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 28, 2013 at 3 P.M. in Calvary United Church of Christ with Rev. Kelly Barefoot officiating. Burial will follow with military honors in the church cemetery. Mr. Hoover will remain at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home until taken to the church thirty minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 6 to 8 P.M. and other times at the home of the son and daughter-in-law, Ernie and Kim Hoover, 214 Colleen Drive, Thomasville.
