Mary Julia Honbarger
Mary Julia Kesler Honbarger 84, of Salisbury passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2015 at the Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks. Mrs. Honbarger was born on July 5, 1931 in Rowan County, a daughter of the late Henry Carr and Julia Shields Kesler.
Mary Julia was a graduate of Rockwell High School, she worked for Cannon Mills. She was a member of Providence United Methodist Church, she taught Sunday school and was a member of the quilting bee. Mary Julia enjoyed cross stitching, crocheting, quilting, gardening, canning, and cooking. She helped with the Liberty Fire Department Chicken & Dumping fundraiser for years.
In addition to her parents, Mary Julia is preceded in death by a brother, Carr Kesler, Jr.
Mary Julia is survived by her husband of over 61 years, G.W. "Bob" Honbarger who she married on December 20, 1953. Son, Kevin Honbarger and wife Susan of Matthews; daughter, Kelly Zalinsky and husband David of Salisbury; brother, Jimmy Kesler and wife Barbara; and sister, Peggy Cassidy. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Brittany, Sarah, Erin, and Emily.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 15th from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at Powles Staton Funeral Home.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday, December 16th at 1:00 pm at Providence United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Aldana Allen, Pastor.
Memorials in memory of Mary Julia may be made to Providence United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund.
