Rachel Vernon Bame

Rachel Vernon Bame of Wilmington, NC and formerly of Kure Beach, NC died Friday, March 8, 2013 at The Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center.

She was born June 15, 1921 in Stoneville, NC to the late John Martin Vernon and Eugenia Robertson Vernon. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Wilson Bame in 1987.

Mrs. Bame was a longtime member and active in St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Carolina Beach, NC. She had formerly served as President of the United Methodist Women, and received the Sapphire Pin in recognition for her exceptional work on missions. Mrs. Bame was a founding member and Past President of the Carolina Beach Women's Club, where she was also nominated for Women of the Year. She worked in education with the New Hanover County Schools.

Surviving are her daughter, Brenda Bame Barnes and husband Larry of Greensboro, NC; two sons, Ernest Donald Bame and wife Louise of Mullins, SC, and Philip Wilson Bame and wife Diane of Wilmington, NC; eight grandchildren; Amanda and Rob Gooding of Cary, NC, Kristie and Bob Ellis of Greensboro, NC, Mollie and John Reddic of Columbia, SC, Emily and Patrick Harris of Beaufort, SC, Wilson Bame of Columbia, SC, Traylor Bame of Raleigh, NC, Bennett and Carter Bame of Wilmington, NC and four great grandchildren, Gracie and Henry Ellis of Greensboro, NC and Abbey and Vaughn Gooding of Cary, NC.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, March 11, 2013 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Carolina Beach, NC with Rev. Shawn Blackwelder and Rev. Paul Phillips officiating. A private burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
