Ray Melvin Isenhour

Mr. Ray Melvin Isenhour, 86, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015, at Bob and Carolyn Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis.

Ray was born on June 4, 1929, in Rowan County to the late Gilbert Isenhour and Mary Fisher Isenhour. He is also preceded in death by sister Edith Isenhour McKay; twin brother Ben Morris Isenhour; and older brother James Lee Isenhour.

Ray was a graduate of Concord High School in Concord, and a graduate from Bowling Green College of Commerce in Kentucky with a B.S. in Commerce, majoring in Accounting. He was veteran of the U.S. Army, serving five years during which he reached the Rank of Corporal. From 1953 to 1959 he was Employed as Staff Accountant with Haskins & Sells, CPAs, Charlotte. From 1959 to 1967 he was first employed as a Chief Accountant and was promoted to Treasurer with Ervin Construction Company, Inc., Charlotte. From 1967 until retirement in April of 1993, he was employed with Laxton Construction Company, Inc., Charlotte. He retired from Laxton Construction as a Vice President and Co- Owner.

Ray was baptized at and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rockwell. He also was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Concord, St. Marks Lutheran Church, Charlotte, and currently he was a member of Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church, Concord. Ray also enjoyed being a member of the Concord Lions Club where he served in several positions and received several honors. Over the years because of his love of antique and classic cars, he enjoyed being a member of Queen City Model A Club and the Hornets Nest Region of the Antique Automobile Club of America.

Ray also enjoyed golf, hunting, working in the yard and keeping track of the weather. Ray was a wonderful example of being a gentle, loving, kind, humble, hard-working, self-sacrificing humble son, husband, father and grandfather. He was always a servant to God his Lord and Savior.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret “Louise” Scott Isenhour; daughter Suzanne I. Maness and husband Terry; son David R. Isenhour and wife Becky; grandchildren Caroline Maness, Bryant Whitley, Christine Whitley, Kelsey Isenhour, Kelly Martin, Michael Martin and wife Connie, Katelyn Rae Isenhour Hinson, Ashley Wondra, Lauren Evans Roseman; great-grandchildren Kenzi Martin, Riley Parker Liseo, Taylor and June Hinson, Carter, Kennedy, Crosby Wondra.

Arrangements; A funeral service will be held 3 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 27 at Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church, officiated by Pastor Carrie Bishop. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow at Oakwood cemetery. The family received friends Monday night at Wilkinson Funeral Home.
