Fred Ritchie Hoke

Fred Ritchie Hoke, 87, of Mooresville, passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.

He was born on November 4, 1924, in Granite Quarry, he was the second son of the late Robert Pierce Hoke and Beulah Virginia Brown Hoke. He attended Lenior Rhyne College for one year before enlisting in the US Army Air Force in World War II. He served in the 8th Air Force as a flight engineer, gunner on a B-24 Bomber. He flew 35 missions over Germany and several missions hauling fuel to General Patton’s Tanks. He graduated from NC State University in 1951 with a civil engineering degree. He was employed with Southern Railway as a track supervisor for twenty years and then as the Assistant City Engineer of Statesville for the next twenty years. He retired in 1990. Mr. Hoke was a dedicated member of First Presbyterian Church of Mooresville for the past 52 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Hazel Millis Hoke; three brothers, Kenneth Brown Hoke, Horace Eugene Hoke, and Robert Donald Hoke.

Mr. Hoke is survived by his children, Teresa Hoke Trimble and husband, Paul, David Fred Hoke and wife, Julia; grandsons, Ryan Paul Trimble, Jay Samuel Trimble, Neil Hoke Trimble, and granddaughter, Emilie Winston Hoke.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 21 at First Presbyterian Church in Mooresville with burial preceding at Glenwood Memorial Park in Mooresville. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 PM at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home.
