Jackie Earl Evans

Jackie Earl Evans, 77, of Gold Hill passed away Thursday, August 20, 2015 at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center.

He was born June 19, 1938, a son of the late Clyde Evans and Alice Parker Lowder Evans.

Jackie attended the schools of Rowan County. He was a proud veteran of the US Navy and attended Rowan Technical Community College. Jackie worked as a barber at Elite Barber Shop, was self-employed in Evans Grading/Hauling/Well-Drilling/Construction, and worked at Piedmont Correctional Institution.

He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, bird hunting, raising Tennessee Walking Horses and spending time with his children and grandchildren who adored him. He loved bluegrass and gospel music. Even in adversity, he always looked for the bright side and enjoyed talking and joking with everyone he met. You never walked away without feeling uplifted.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Wanda Evans Allen (Norman); brothers, Ronnie Evans, Dwight Evans (Dolly), Harveo Evans, Leon Evans, Benjamin Evans (Barbara), Clyde Evans, Jr.; grandsons, Evan and Parker Shelton

Left to cherish his memory is his wife Janice Elaine Small Evans, whom he married on May 5, 1962; sons, Kevin Earl Evans (Beth), Aaron Lynn Evans (Michelle); daughter, Carmen Elaine Evans Shelton (John); brother, Stanley Evans; sisters, Joy Evans Earnhardt (Bill), Sue Evans Horton (Ralph), Carolyn Evans Corriher (Lanny); grandchildren, Natalie Hicks (Matthew), Katelyn Shelton, Linley Coggins (Brandon), Luke Evans, Ashlyn Evans, Chase Evans.

Service: 3:00 PM Sunday, August 23, 2015 at Gold Hill Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Ronald Thompson and the Rev. Charlie Collins officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites performed by the Lyerly Volunteer Honor Guard.
