George Warner Miller

George Warner Miller, 88, of Millers Creek, N.C. passed away at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center on January 12, 2004, after a brief illness.

Mr. Miller was born on December 5, 1915 in Wilkes County to Leo Anderson Miller and George Washington Miller. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sarah Pool Miller and his second wife, Pauline Canter Miller; three brothers, Marvin A. Miller, William A. Miller, and Raymond A. Miller; two sisters, Mabel M. Hollings and Ruth A. Miller.

He is survived by one son and daughter in law, Charles W. Miller and Barbara Parker Miller of Winston Salem; one grandson, Keith W. Miller of Herndon, VA; one sister, Mrs. Joye M. Lentini of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; a step-son and his wife, Eugene and Mary Louise Canter of Millers Creek; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Miller is also survived by a brother-in-law and special friend, Rev. Hunter Church.

Mr. Miller was a devout and lifelong member of Fishing Creek Baptist Church, where he served as church clerk, deacon, and teacher for many years. He was also named deacon emeritus in October, 2001. He served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II and was an active participant of the Wilkes VFW. he was a charter member of the Broadway Volunteer Fire Department, where he also served as the department chaplain for several years. After his retirement from Peerless Hosiery, he was an active volunteer in the American Red Cross Bloodmobiles and the Speedway Road Ruritan Club.

Funeral services will be held at Fishing Creek Baptist Church. Burial with military rites by the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 1142 will be in the church cemetery.
