Edwin Everton Morgan

Chief Master Sergeant Edwin Everton Morgan, Sr. 38, passed away on March 13, 1966 in Quang Nam Province, Laos. Edwin was the Loadmaster on a seven-man crew aboard a Douglas AC-47D Spooky Gunship that went down while on an armed nighttime mission during Vietnam.

Edwin was born on September 4, 1927 in Eagle Springs, NC, a son of the late Dosey Emerson and Norda Roberta Craven Morgan. Edwin attended Rockwell High School. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy, Army and the Air Force.

Edwin enlisted in the Navy in June of 1945 when he was 17 years old and served until June of 1949. Edwin served in the Army from 1949 to 1955, while in the Army he served in Germany and France. In 1955 Edwin reenlisted in the Air Force, while in the Air Force, Edwin was stationed in Bermuda, Tinker AFB in Oklahoma City, OK and Joint Base in Charleston, SC, before leaving for Tan Son Nhut AB in the Republic of Vietnam at the end of January 1966. Edwin remained at Tan Son Nhut until he was reported as MIA on March 13, 1966. Edwin was awarded the Purple Heart the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal posthumously.

After Edwin's death, his parents; brother, Howard Morgan and sister, Ada Morgan Cromer succeeded him in death.

Edwin is survived by his children, Edwin Everton Morgan, Jr. "Eddie" and wife Amanda of Rockwell, and Frances Morgan Morris of Salisbury. Grandchildren, Sam Morgan, Dylan Morgan, Kim Morris Waller and husband David, and Lisa Morris Fincher and husband Dustin; great grandchildren, Christian Morris, Joshua Waller and Jillian Fincher. Sisters, Wanda Leonard and Lena Morgan.

A procession is planned for the afternoon of June 25th through Salisbury.

The family will receive friends on Friday, June 26, 2015 from 5:00 to 9:00 PM at Powles Funeral Home in Rockwell.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at First Baptist Church in Rockwell, conducted by Rev. Thomas Teichroew Pastor of Heartsong Church. Burial will follow at Brookhill Memorial Gardens with graveside rites provided by the United States Air Force.
