Ira Eugene Helms, 81, of Locust, NC, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2011, in Carolinas Medical Center NorthEast, Concord, NC.
Mr. Helms was born June 28, 1929, in Cabarrus County.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Kron Helms; mother, Mary Crayton Helms; and brother, Russell Helms.
He was an aircraft engine mechanic in the U. S. Navy and continued by working on autos as a motor mechanic and body work.
The visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 5, at Hartsell Funeral Home, Midland. The funeral will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, at Locust Presbyterian, where he was a member, with a 30 minute state. Rev. Mack Sigmon will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Survivors include sisters, Billy Honeycutt of Stanfield, and Hyacinth Jenkins of Winston Salem.
