ALBEMARLE - Mrs. Clara Mae Gantt Almond, 74, a long time Albemarle resident died Saturday morning, Aug. 22, 1998, at her home in Greensboro.

A family graveside service will be held in Stanly Gardens of Memory Tuesday morning at 10 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Harold McDonald.

Clara Mae, born June 28, 1924, was a native of Kings Mountain and daughter of the late A.D. and Bessie Turner Gantt. After graduation from Western Carolina Teachers College, she moved to Albemarle in 1945 as a teacher and coach for Albemarle High School. Clara Mae married E. Keith Almond and resided in Albemarle until 1994. She was a devoted wife and mother while also being actively involved in the Central United Methodist Church and her community. She touched the lives of her family and friends in a special way. Her husband preceded her in death in 1991.

Her survivors include one son, E. Keith Almond, Jr. of Albemarle; three daughters, Ann Allgood of Greensboro, Linda Hill of Wilmington, Rosemary Thomas of Albemarle; one brother, Bill Gantt of Albemarle; one sister, Mary Frances Elliott of Shelby; and six grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Monday in the Almond home at 711 Yadkin Street, Albemarle.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
