Mildred Brady Merrell

Mildred Brady Merrell, 85, Salisbury, died Sunday (Nov. 30, 2003) at Salisbury Lutheran Home after a period of declining health.

Born May 17, 1918, in Rowan County, Mrs. Merrell, a daughter of the late Joseph Wilson and Carrie Viola Agner Brady, was educated in the Rowan County schools and Carolina Beauty College, Charlotte. She was a self-employed beautician.

An active member of Union Lutheran Church, she taught Sunday school and was a member of WELCA and the Adult and Handbell choirs. For over 50 years, she was a member of Union Grove Home Demonstration Club. She was also a member of Starry Night Quilters, a life member of Southern Seminary Auxiliary, a former member of the council, and a lay minister and Luther League advisor.

Her husband, Lacy Allen Merrell, died Feb. 8, 1985. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, who died March 14, 2002.

Survivors include son Franklin E. Merrell, Salisbury; brothers Billy Frank Brady, Salisbury, and Carl Edward Brady, Strawberry Plains, Tenn.; and one grandson.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Union Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Darrell Norris. Burial, family plot in church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Lyerly Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home of her son, Franklin Merrell.
