Thelma Lentz Jones Stokes

The funeral will be Thursday for Thelma Lentz Jones Stokes, 86, 5380 Mount Hope Church Road, who died Monday (Jan. 10, 2000) at The Laurels of Salisbury.

Born July 5, 1913, in Rowan County, Mrs. Stokes, a daughter of the late Willie Lindsey and Etta Crook Lentz, graduated from high school in Roanoke, Ala. Formerly employed by Cone Mills, she retired from Cannon Mills.

She was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Heaven Bound Sunday School Class and the Women's Missionary group. The Faith Jaycees presented her the Outstanding Senior Citizen award in 1994. In 1997, she received a Voluntary Service certificate for over 3000 hours and three years of volunteer service at Salisbury VA Medical Center.

Her first husband, Charlie Denson Jones, died Dec. 14, 1976. Her second husband, Hayden C. Stokes, died Oct. 27, 1996.

Survivors include sons H.Dwight Jones, Skippers, Va., and D. Wayne Jones, Faith; daughters Jean Kraft, Charlotte, Grace Anderson, Gold Hill, and Mrs. Stamey (Charlene) Shoemaker, Salisbury; stepson Hayden C. Stokes Jr., Salisbury; brother W. Harold Lentz, Salisbury; sister Frances Bradshaw, Salisbury; 10 grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Faith Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Chuck Brawley, the Rev. Gary Bodford and the Rev. Fred Weber. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove. At other times the family will be at the home of daughter Mrs. Stamey (Charlene) Shoemaker, 5380 Mount Hope Church Road.
