Cecile Lowder Almond

Cecile Lowder Almond, age 96 of Albemarle, NC formerly of New London, NC passed away Saturday, June 24, 2017 at the Trinity Place of Albemarle.? Her funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at Bethany United Methodist Church with Rev. Ben Sloan and Rev. Jim Allred officiating. Burial will follow in Bethany United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Stanly Funeral & Cremation Care on Tuesday evening from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Mrs. Almond was born on August 12, 1920 in Stanly County, NC to the late John Frank Lowder, Sr. and Quennie Smith Lowder. She was a graduate of New London High School, and was a retired employee of Wiscassett Hosiery Mill and Concord Telephone Company as a secretary. At the time of her death, she was the oldest member of Bethany United Methodist Church. She was a volunteer at Stanly Regional Medical Center and Hospice of Stanly & Uwharrie. She was also a nursing home volunteer. Mrs. Almond was a member of V.F.W. Auxiliary, very active in her church choir, church board, UMW and a number of other offices.

Mrs. Almond was married to the late Charlie Bradie Almond who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were two brothers, James D. Lowder and C. Ray Lowder and two sisters Esther L. Bunting and Ada Lowder. She is survived by two daughters, Dianne A Holmes and husband Carol of Mint Hill, NC and Taska A. Williams and husband Preston of Charlotte, NC, one brother, John F. Lowder, Jr. of Bethel, CT, one sister Alene Lowder Brooks of Richfield, NC, five grandchildren, Charles M. Holmes, Wesley D. Holmes (Catherine), Jennifer Holmes Trachen (Karim), Bradley P. Williams (Carolyn), and Matthew L Williams (Catherine). She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren, Bradie Holmes, Mary Sheldon Holmes, Preston Williams, Charlie Williams, James Williams, Ben Willians, Ryan Williams, Helen Williams and Elizabeth Williams. She is also survived by beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to thank the staff of Trinity Place and Hospice of Stanly & Uwharrie for their kind and loving care of Mom while recovering from a stroke in November 2011. We would also like to thank the ministers, Bethany Circle members, friends and extended family who continued to visit her during the six and half years she was at Trinity.
