QUINCY, Fla. - Elva Williams Cook, of Quincy, Fla., died Friday, March 20, 2015.

She was born in Spencer, to H.A. and Blanche Williams. She graduated from Spencer High School and Catawba College, and was a beloved high school teacher. She married Curtis C. Cook in 1945 and lived in Salisbury until they moved to Durham to open a branch of his family business, J.H. Cook & Sons.

He preceded her in death in 1986. Elva moved to Quincy, Fla. in 2003 to be closer to family. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and the Quincy Garden Club.

She is survived by her brother, Hugh A. Williams, Jr. (Ruth) of Raleigh; her daughter, Patsy Cook Bates (Mark) of Quincy, Fla.; and her grandchildren, John Curtis Bates of Fletcher and Julia Bates of Brooklyn, N.Y.

Service: 11 a.m. Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Howerton and Bryan Funeral Home, 1005 W. Main St., Durham. Interment will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Durham.
