Harvey James

Mr. Harvey Walter James, Sr., 82, of Huntersville, NC, died Thursday, November 28, 2002 at his residence. He was born June 14, 1920 in Mecklenburg County, NC, to the late R. D. James, Sr. and Coralee Godfrey James. Mr. James was a charter member of Derita Baptist Church, graduated from Derita High School, and attended Mars Hill College, where he played baseball and basketball. He was a US Army Veteran of World War II and retired from Duke Power., McGuire Nuclear Plant.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Juanita Kerr James; sons, R. David James and wife, Sandra, of Huntersville, NC, Rickey James of Stanfield, NC and Harvey W. James, Jr. of Albemarle, NC; daughters, Diane J. Gray and husband, Ralph, of Huntersville, NC, and Debbie James of Huntersville, NC; sisters, Margie Berry of Concord, NC, Virginia Crawford and Lillian Rawdon of Charlotte, NC; ten grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, R. D. James, Jr.

Funeral service will be 3:00 PM Sunday, December 1, 2002 in the Chapel at Raymer Funeral Home, with the Reverend S. M. Dorton officiating. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice at Charlotte.
