Marshall “Pinky” Walter Sides, 80, of New London passed away December 15, 2016 in Duke University Hospital, Durham. A Celebration of Life Service will be 3 PM Sunday, December 18, 2016 in Bethel United Methodist Church with Rev. Carroll Flack officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday at the church prior to the funeral service from 1:30 until 2:45 PM.
Born March 2, 1936 in Stanly County, NC, he was the son of the late Mamie Basinger Sides and Arther Haywood Sides. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and he loved fishing.
Mr. Sides is survived by his wife Julia “Kayel” Lowder Sides of the home. Other survivors include son Randy Sides of Albemarle, daughter Wanda Kay Sides and husband Michael Mixon of Albemarle, sisters Millie Ann Basinger of New London and Tammy Marie Sides of Oak Island, grandchildren Nikki Sides and Marshall Sides, both of Albemarle, and great grandson Victor Parker III. A sister Mary Frances Thompson preceded him in death.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice of Stanly and the Uwharrie, Albemarle, NC.
