ALBEMARLE -- Shelby Val Morgan Jr., 80, 625 Bethany Road, died Tuesday (Dec. 24, 2002) at Stanly Manor.
Born March 23, 1922, in Raleigh, Mr. Morgan was a son of the late Shelby Val and Retta Green Morgan. He graduated from N.C. State University, Raleigh, with a bachelor of science degree in agriculture.
An educator for more than 30 years, he began his teaching career at Grimsley High School, where he also coached football and basketball. Later, he taught in the science department at Lenoir-Rhyne College and then at Hickory High School. He retired from Rowan Community College, Salisbury.
He was a member of various antique car clubs, including Carolinas Chrysler Club.
Survivors include wife Edith Plyler Morgan; daughter Melynn Morgan Stowman, Albemarle; and sister Betty Lou Morgan, Albemarle.
Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Mount Zion Lutheran Church, Richfield, conducted by the Rev. Fred Mitschke. Burial, Richfield Cemetery.
Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Hartsell Funeral Home.
