Robert Lewis “Bob” Honeycutt

Robert Lewis “Bob” Honeycutt, age 84, of 800 Springs Road, Albemarle,NC 28001 went home to be with the Lord at 3:50 pm on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at Stanly Manor Nursing Home in Albemarle. He had been sick for months and was hospitalized after a fall, Bob developed further medical complications and required special care from the staff at the nursing home.

The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle on Thursday from 6 to 8 pm. The funeral service will be at Fairview Baptist Church with a 30 minute state on Friday, August 19 at 2:00 pm. Rev. Farrell Shimpock and Rev. Delaine Burris will officiate. The burial will follow at Stanly Gardens of Memory. Military honors will be conducted by Stanly County DAV Chapter 12.

Bob was born February 18, 1927 in Hickory, NC. to the late Lewis Delmer Honeycutt and the late Julia Miller Honeycutt.

Bob was a member of Fairview Baptist Church, and his faith and trust in God were evident to those who knew him. He graduated from Albemarle High School in 1945. He served his country in WWII as a Petty Officer, 2nd class in the Navy. He was assigned to the Seabees and was stationed with a unit that maintained a U.S. Naval base in Bermuda. He was called up to active duty again in 1952, and served as a Carpenter's Mate at the Naval Ship Yard, Philadelphia, PA.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Elaine Hathcock Honeycutt, his son, Steve Lewis Honeycutt; two sisters, Dorothy Nicholson of Charlotte and Julia Hilda Shrout of Clackamas, Oregon and a special family friend, Carolyn Honeycutt.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. Two of his brothers, Paul and James Honeycutt had also lived in Albemarle. For many years Bob owned and operated Honeycutt Shoe Shop on West North Street, where his brother, James, was co-owner for many years. Shoe repair was a long time family business. Their father, Lewis Honeycutt, first started the Honeycutt Shoe Shop in Albemarle in l936 on North Second Street. Honeycutt’s Shoe Shop will be missed by many people in the community.

Bob was a dedicated husband, father and servant of the Lord. He was an outgoing person and enjoyed friendships with his customers and others in the community. He was a past member of the Lion’s Club.
