Moody Z. Honeycutt, Jr.
Mr. Moody Z. Honeycutt, Jr. 83, of Matthews, formerly of Drexel, died Friday October 24, 2014 at his residence after a long and valiant battle with lung cancer.
Mr. Honeycutt was born September 24, 1931 in Catawba County, a son of the late M.Z. Honeycutt, Sr. and Naomi Burns Honeycutt.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Sheila Honeycutt Langley.
Moody was a graduate of Lenoir Rhyne University with a BA in Business and also studied pre-med at Emory University in Atlanta. He graduated from the UNC Chapel Hill School of Pharmacy . Mr. Honeycutt and his wife Norma owned and operated the Drexel Discount Drug Center for 30 years. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, and a former member of the American Legion, the Drexel Lions Club and the Drexel Optimist Club. He was an active supporter of the Metropolitan Music Ministries.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, of the home, one daughter and three grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother of Drexel, and two nephews.
Funeral Services for Moody Z. Honeycutt, Jr. will be held at 12:00 P.M. Monday October 27, 2014 in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service of Valdese with Rev. Donald Smith officiating. Entombment will follow with Military Honors in the Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum.
