Rev. Joseph M. Pickler, 99, of Brookview Healthcare Center, Gaffney, S.C. died Saturday, July 7, 2007, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center.

Born in Stanly County, N.C., he was the husband of Helen Nash Pickler of Gaffney and the son of the late Dock Frank Pickler and the late Sally Miller Pickler. His first wife was the late Flora Poplin Pickler.

He was a retired minister and member of Temple Baptist Church. He was saved at the age of 13 and has pastored since 1931. A 1941 graduate of Wingate College, he was a member of the Blacksburg Masonic Lodge and has been a Mason for 70 years. He has pastored 14 churches including Taylors Grove, New London, N.C.; Eldorado, North of Troy, N.C.; Cedar Grove, Polkton, N.C.; New Home, north of Peachland, N.C.; Mt. Memoriah near Pageland, S.C.; Eutah, New Salem, N.C.; Mt. Olive, south of Polkton, N.C.; Oak View, east of Monroe, N.C.; Pleasant Plains, south of Matthews, N.C.; Macedonia, south of Monroe, N.C.; Second Baptist Church, Great Falls, S.C., Broad River Baptist, Blacksburg; Padgett Creek, south of Union; Welcome, Laurens, S.C., and was interim pastor of a number of churches in Cherokee County, Great Falls, Union and Anson County, N.C.

In addition to his second wife, he is survived by a son Odie Pickler of Blacksburg; a daughter Cathryn Moore of Blacksburg; a brother, Clyde Pickler of New London, N.C.; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Shuford Hatcher Funeral Home at Frederick Memorial Gardens. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Shuford Hatcher Chapel at Frederick Memorial Gardens with the Revs. Curtis Cameron and Scott Kierstead officiating. Burial will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.

The family will be at their respective homes.

Memorials may be made the memorials of one's choice.
