FLORENCE, S.C. Willie James “Bill” Rimer, 93, of Florence, died on Tuesday, October 2, 2012, at a local healthcare facility.

Mr. Rimer was born September 17, 1919, in East Spencer, NC, a son of the late Ernest James and Ester Clement Rimer. He was a US Navy veteran having served during WWII. He worked for Southern Railway for twenty-four years and then retired from DuPont after working there for twenty-three years as a mechanic and welder.

Mr. Rimer taught welding at Florence-Darlington TEC for twenty years. He served as a Layman, Sunday School Teacher and a Deacon for Calvary Baptist Church in Salisbury, NC. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Florence where he was a past Deacon and Sunday School Teacher.

Mr. Rimer was an avid fisherman, who especially loved flounder fishing.

Mr. Rimer was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his wife of 72 years, Martha Frances Bell Rimer, who died March 31, 2012; a sister, Helen Louise Hillard and a brother, Ernest Jackson Rimer.

Mr. Rimer is survived by four daughters, Judy Sharon (Charles) Waddell of Winston-Salem, NC, Linda (Don) Adams of Charlotte, NC, Brenda (Daniel) Thompson of Effingham, SC, and Sybil Riddle of Asheville, NC; a brother, Karl D. Rimer of Burbank, CA; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 5, 2012, at Calvary Baptist Church. Entombment will follow at Florence Memorial Gardens directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 pm on Thursday at the funeral home.
