Dorothy "Dot" Peacock

Dorothy “Dot” Lovette Peacock, 87, after an extended illness, has gone to be with Jesus on Tuesday, June 8, 2021.

Dorothy was born on January 15, 1934 in Rowan County to the late Jesse and Freda Lovette. She was a graduate of Boyden High School, Salisbury, NC, Class of 1952. Dot married her high school sweetheart, Jimmie, and they were married for 68 years.

She was a Navy wife, mother of four, a highway patrolman’s wife, seamstress and factory worker. She was a member of Bethel Wesleyan Church where she shared the love of Jesus through teaching primary age Sunday School for many years. She served as a church greeter and found great joy in distributing the church bulletins. She also directed the children’s Christmas programs and was a church photographer. She was adored by her family and friends. She was a wonderful cook and was famous for her cherry yum-yum at church dinners.

Those left to cherish her memory include her beloved husband, Jimmie Franklin Peacock; daughters, Gwen (Greg) Kment of Nebraska; Donna (David) Chandler of Concord and Sheila (Chuck) Grindstaff of Greenville, SC; grandchildren, Ashley Chandler, Amber (Michael) Shoe, John (Courtney) Peacock; great-grandchildren, Lindsey and Cooper Shoe and Maggie Peacock; sisters, Sarah Welch and Louise (Rick) Parks.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her mother and father-in-law, James and Edna Peacock, brothers, James Lovette and William “Bill” Lovette, and a son, Jimmie Franklin “Frank” Peacock Jr.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 11, 2021, at Whitley’s Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m., in the chapel of Whitley’s Funeral Home, with Rev. Michael Greer and Rev. Gary Morris officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service at St. Stephens Wesleyan Church Cemetery,7601 Brusharbor Road, Concord.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the Atrium Care Team and the Pruitt Towncenter staff in Harrisburg.
