Ruby Maye Hopkins Russell
Ruby Maye Hopkins Russell, 93, of Albemarle passed away Sunday July 9, 2017 at CHS-Stanly. Her funeral will be Tuesday July 11 at 4 PM at Porter Baptist Church with Rev. Kinney Wallace and Rev. Chris Wallace officiating. The burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 till 8 PM Monday at Stanly Funeral & Cremation Care.
Born April 20, 1924 in Stanly County, she was the daughter of the late Harvel Benton Hopkins and Agnes Talbert Hopkins. Ruby was employed for a number of years with the finishing department at Wiscasset Mills Co. and was last employed by School Food Services where she retired from South Stanly School Cafeteria. She was a faithful member of Porter Baptist Church as long as she was able. Ruby was also a member of the Helping Hands Sunday school class.
She was married for 60 years to Paul Russell who preceded her in death on March 22, 2004. In addition to her husband, Ruby was preceded in death by her daughter Betty Jean Russell on September 16, 1953, one brother Eugene Thomas Hopkins, and one sister Pauline Thomas. Survivors include nephew Stanley (Missy) Russell of Albemarle, niece Anita (Jon) Spitzhoff of Concord, nephew Gene (Becky) Hopkins of Charlotte, nephew Bill (Pat) Russell of Norwood, God-Daughter Terrie Bennett of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and numerous other loving nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Community Homecare & Hospice or to Gideon International.
