Barbara Virginia Mae Schlater Bell

Mrs. Barbara Virginia Mae Schlater Bell, 87, of 2601 Reynolda Rd. Winston-Salem, and formerly of Statesville, our mother, went to be with the Lord on Friday February 5, 2010 from Forsythe Medical Center. She was a kind, generous and loving mother and a dedicated wife, a best friend and an adoring grandmother and great grandmother.

Born in Exira, Iowa on July 20, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin Schlater and Ethel Lillian Tibben Schlater. She was a lifetime volunteer and volunteered at Forsythe Medical Center for 18 years logging over 3000 hours of time, she was formerly a Girl Scout leader of Troop #12 in Statesville of the First Baptist Church, a former nursary worker at First Baptist Church where she was a member and an avid gardener. During her working career she was a hairdresser, cosmetologist and sales clerk.

On April 11, 1941, she married Mr. George Robert Bell who died on November 28, 1986.

Survivors include a son, Craig Bell and his wife, Nancy of Statesville, a daughter, Jennifer Bell Robinson and her husband, Chuck of Lewisville, grandchildren: Ginger Waddell and her husband, Larry and Amber Reese and her husband, Clark and great grandchildren: Justin Waddell and Meaghan Waddell all of Statesville. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Ferne Curry and Mrs. Bernice McCrory both of Iowa.

Services celebrating Barbara's life will be conducted at 2:00 pm Thursday at First Baptist Church in Statesville with Dr. Jeff Porter officiating. Burial will follow in Iredell Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be: Clark Reese, Larry Waddell, Bill Brown, Matt Wacker, Kenny and Ben Kress. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 prior to the service in Adams Hall of First Baptist Church.

Memorials may be given to the American Lung Association.
