She was born Dec. 21, 1929, in Statesville and was the daughter of the late Fred L. and Sarah Travis Bell. She graduated from Scotts High School and following graduation, she worked for the J.C. Penney Distribution Center.

On April 8, 1950, she married her high school sweetheart. After having children, she stayed at home and volunteered her time at charities such as Fifth Street Ministries and also drove a school bus for East Iredell Elementary School. After raising her sons and her husband had retired from General Electric Company in Hickory, she worked for Thomasville Furniture in the Statesville and Hickory offices. She was a member of Western Avenue Baptist Church where she served on several committees. She also served as a Sunday school teacher at both Diamond Hill Baptist and Oakdale Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. J.W. (Vernie) Sherrill of Statesville and Mrs. Espy T. (Betty) Troutman of Troutman; and two brothers, George Bell of Winston-Salem and Glen Bell of Charlotte.

Freddie is survived by her husband of 61 years, William E. "Bill" Lazenby; three sons and their spouses, Michael and Candy (Knox) Lazenby of Connelly Springs, Mark and Juanita (Waller) Lazenby of Statesville, and Chris and Annette (Perry) Lazenby of Statesville; seven grandchildren, with whom she enjoyed spending time, Jeffrey Lazenby, Bryan Lazenby, Dakota Lazenby, Sawyer Lazenby, Ally Lazenby, Michelle Baker and Natalie Baker. A service celebrating Freddie's life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, at Western Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. Ed Yarbrough officiating. Burial will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church prior to the service.

For those who prefer, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County; or to the Baptist Children's Home of NC (one of her favorite charities), Thomasville, NC.
